Météore (domaine du)
Information
- Description
- Ten thousand years ago, a meteorite struck a hillside in Southern France. Today, Domaine du Météore's vines grow within and around its crater. We are the only vineyard in the world to have such a feature. Our astrological association is reflected in the names of our cuvées, which are taken from the meteorite showers frequently seen shooting over the domaine.
Situated in the medieval village of Cabrerolles, at 300m altitude in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Park, the domaine spans the schist soils of AOP Faugères and Saint-Chinian.
The Cevennes mountains to our north shelter the domaine from the harsh Tramontane wind, creating a downcurrant of cool air, which together with our altitude, gives the wines freshness and acidity. On the nutritionally poor schist soil, vine roots are forced to grow deep, which keeps yields low (25-30 HI/Ha) and brings a distinctive elegance and minerality to the wines.
Surrounded by garrigue with the scent of wild thyme, mint and cistus, Domaine du Météore makes organic wines inspired by its land and history, with a hint of cosmic influence.
