- Casar de Burbia is a family winegrower in Spain’s D.O. Bierzo, close to the Camino de Santiago, deeply rooted in the hillside vineyards of Valtuille de Arriba. The estate farms only its own vineyards (around 27 ha), split into many small plots (“pagos”), with a high proportion of old to very old vines (some dating back to the early 1900s) planted at 600 to over 700 metres above sea level.
Casar de Burbia’s approach is built on certified organic farming, avoiding pesticides and systemic products, and embracing a regenerative mindset to restore soil life and protect biodiversity. In the cellar, the focus is on terroir transparency through plot-based work/micro-vinifications and a restrained, low-intervention philosophy, aiming for wines that are vibrant, honest and expressive of Bierzo—especially through local grapes such as Mencía and Godello.
