- It was in Aniane, in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac, that in the 90s, Joël Laval, then a computer scientist in Montpellier and fascinated by the landscapes of his childhood, decided to make wine from some of his grandfather's and father's vines. Joël was later joined by his wife Christine and their three children, and the whole family moved to Aniane! The estate was named ‘Mas Laval’ after the hamlet in the middle of the vines, the birthplace of the Laval family.
The 1st vintage of the Grande Cuvée rouge was produced in the cellar of a friend and neighbouring winemaker in Puechabon, with only 1,000 bottles produced. The Grande Cuvée soon found its way onto the menus of prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants such as Maison BRAS in Laguiole, Le Bristol in Paris and Jardin des Sens in Montpellier.
Right from the start, Joël and Christine were driven by a respect for the terroir and a desire to produce authentic wines of the highest quality.
Over the years, the Mas Laval estate has developed and become more structured, with the quality of the wines and respect for the land always being the watchwords. The conversion to organic farming, which began in 2019, is consistent with this philosophy. The range has been expanded with the arrival of the estate's signature cuvée: ‘Les Pampres’ in red, white and rosé. Since 2020, Geoffrey, the family's eldest son, has revived the family tradition by joining the estate and becoming the 3rd generation of winemakers. With his personality and experience, he brings a breath of fresh air and dynamism! Responsible for the vinification of the estate's wines and passionate about environmental issues, he is currently leading an Agroforestry project in the vineyards.
