Domaine Grosbois
Information
- Description
- Situated on the right bank of the Vienne Valley, between Tours and Saumur, Domaine Grosbois, a former fortified farm built in the 15th century, extends over 20 hectares of vines (eventually 26). Most of the 19 parcels that make up the estate are located in the heart of a Grand Clos, which was destroyed in the 1960s. Nicolas and Sylvain initiated the reconstruction of this historic Clos. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the heart of the vineyard is located mid-slope, sheltered from flooding, on the gentle slopes of the Panzoult commune. The soils are mainly crumbly millarges, quartz yellow sands that retain heat at the end of the growing season (September) and on which Cabernet Franc reigns supreme.
Nicolas and Sylvain prefer low yields, around 40 hectolitres/hectare, and a high planting density (5,800 vines/hectare) to encourage the expression of the terroirs and guarantee a certain consistency in the quality of the wines.
